Israel |
At Eshbal
boarding school - on a hill in Galilee - young socially committed kibbutz inhabitants meet
young people from Ethiopia whom no other institution wants to take on. Israels
Ethiopian community, which is still very young, is considered a high-risk
group which shows all the symptoms of impoverishment and marginalisation that lead to
alcohol and drugs abuse. However, as boarding-school life shows, these young people - like
the kibbutz dwellers, too - are trying to find a place in Israeli society: each in their
own way. |

'Hold On,' starring Jackie Julio, Doug Olear ('The Wire,' 'Something

is a quirky comedy about Rose, a spirited, quadriplegic, physicist who goes to extreme
measures in her quest for romance. This engaging, short film is sprinkled with absurdity
and symbolism, adding a little spice for the consummate film lover. |

| Operation Mural
|
55 |
Israel |
Forty-five years after their clandestine mission, three Mossad agents return
to Casablanca to retrace their steps in a humanitarian mission whereby 530 Jewish children
reached Israel in 1961, under the guise of holidays in Switzerland. A special collective
passport system was initiated, and then used with royal consent for the aliyah of 100,000
Jews in Operation Yakhin (1962-64). This film vividly documents how
Operation Mural (16 March - 24 July 1961) succeeded beyond all expectations.
The key actors relive their undercover activities: Mural, code-name of David
Gerald Littman - himself unaware that the operation was directed by the Mossad - and his
contacts, Georges and Jacques, assisted by a dedicated local group
of Jewish youth (the Misgeret). There are many precious testimonies of children and key
Mossad figures in Israel, and the Littmans in Switzerland - including a visit to the Home
de la Foręt. This film documents a forgotten story, adding a new page to Israels
heroic birth and history. |

Lavie, the Israeli painter, the art and classical music critic, is arguably the most
influential cultural figure of his generation, an embodiment of the image of the
"Sabra". The film follows Raffi Lavie, who had to give up the lease on his
mythological apartment in Tel-Aviv, where he lived for 33 years with his wife Ilana and
their children - when he is forced to reorganize his life, in order to relocate and begin
yet another new phase in his life. Amit Goren's film makes Lavie's personality and art
